One mans misfortune is another opportunity

Sadly for the guy we were going to hire to come down to do the tape, mud, and texture. His father had a stroke and he had to stay there with him. That kind of put a large damper on things. However, friends from church came through and pulled some favors/hooked us up with some contacts. The next day (Last Monday) we had two guys come in and quote the job. One was actually reasonable and quite close to the original, it meant doing a lot more prep work though as we would have to be the ones to finish cleanup and tape-off everything.
Monday night, Tuesday night, Wednesday night we were over there until at least midnight after work, and Ashleah was there while I was at work scraping ceilings. We had to put up the last drywall, taping off beams and walls, et cetera. Matt and Bill came over and helped a lot. And a few LeTourneau guys came over and helped which was of good assistance and quality of character.
We finished just in time and they began work this morning as promised. The guy doing the work has thus far shown that he is both punctual and a man of his word by showing up on time as promised, and seems to be a no-bs, honest, takes-no-shit, fellow whose helpful and nice to boot, which is certainly a complement from me and greatly appreciated. Things are looking up for our plans to move in by May 2nd.


Here is a picture of some of the work being done, their supplies and showing off the tape-off work that had to be done. The beams in the living room were the most time-consuming and took around 8 hours by themselves to do correctly.


The stilts are for the main working crew, 4 mexicans, none of which is probably much taller than Ashleah, with stilts for ceiling work and up-high stuff, and they are quick. They finished the primary base coat of mud in about 4-5 hours today. They also used good quality metal corner board with a round corner, I was expecting a squared off 90-edge so I am pleased.
